June Happenings

Lots to catch up on over the past couple weeks…

Maggie graduated from Kindergarten a couple weeks ago.  She got fantastic “grades” by the end of the year, and is doing great with reading/spelling.  We’ve been pretty impressed with her math skills too.  I was definitely not this educated by the end of Kindergarten!

G.A's class of 2027

They had a simple gathering in the church for their graduation.  They had some singing and then Mrs. Lampman gave each one their diploma.  Maggie was in her wheelchair still, but that didn’t hold her back one bit!

Proud parents

Maggie and her teacher

These are a couple drawings from Maggie’s school packet.  I knew she was drawing better, but the her self portrait from beginning to the end of the year has really changed (or perhaps how she views herself)!

I love the giant brown nose? hair?  beak?

Maggie transformed

This one made us chuckle.  There’s this movie called “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” where a bunch of food falls from the sky.  Maggie’s assignment was to fill in the blank with what she would want to fall from the sky…

Cloudy with a chance of money!

We attended a Foley grad party that weekend and
Ben got to meet Fr. Gerry!

Jamie went to New York last week to visit Andy and Katie and to see the National.  After three nights on full time baby-watch, I was ready to have him back home!

Cheers for beers!

He found Bonde and Matt at the concert!  Jealous...

We celebrated Father’s Day with a giant donut cake and some little gifts.  I took the kids to breakfast with my parents and Bobby’s family… turns out six little kids at a restaurant is not the most relaxing way to eat breakfast!  I’m glad I got to see my Dad though.  We did dinner with the Donoghues that evening and then I slept hard!

This is one great daddy

So delicious

A couple weeks ago I got to go to Washington, D.C. for a work seminar.  It was really interesting, but the best part was seeing my seeee-star and her fam!  Also sleeping in a hotel away from the chaos of home was pretty great (for a couple days), but I was excited to get home to my babies.

Sister sister

Love these people

Jamie and the girls started daycamp this week.  Last summer was a nightmare because Evie was too scared to be without Jamie and basically clung to him everyday while he tried to teach art to a billion kids.  This year she has totally immersed herself in everything, making friends and comes home so excited to tell me about her day!  We’re so proud of her!  Maggie had a great first day, but by the second day her ankle was just too sore to walk on all the time.  So she’s getting around in the wheelchair part time, but doing pretty great otherwise.

This is what the end of the camp day looks like

Lot's of randoms:

Unlike his sisters, Ben is all about tummy time

Getting used to non-stop cuddles and kisses

Evie is the sister who worries about Ben the most...
Maggie often just tunes it all out!

Movie date with Daddy

Mmmm popcorn

Just working on my core muscles

Ben wanted to join in on story time

Trying to imitate Daddy's beard

Schmee from Captain Hook?

Was there ever a happier baby?

Seriously
(also Bonde sent us this onesie with Matt Berninger from the National on it)

Ben's Baptism, Evie's last day, and Maggie's foot

Benjamin Michael was baptized on Sunday by our dear friend Fr. Brian.  He did the baptism during the mass, and it was really beautiful.  Ben was pretty darn good for the whole thing, lots of smiles.  Aunt Allison and Uncle Justin are Ben's godparents, so he's in good hands!  He was baptized in the same gown that I and all my siblings wore, and that his two sisters wore too... yes, it was a bit frilly, and he might yell at me for it one day, but seriously, how sweet is this boy:

Happy and holy!

Trying to get a nice family photo... the girls were not
super into it

Only four months (ish) and he can already pray

Ben received lots of beautiful gifts and a nice start to his college fund!  One of my favorites was a large wooden cross from Aunt Allison and Uncle Bobby that says "I want for you, my child, two things - to give you roots and to give you wings."  Ugh, I cry every time I read it, love it.

I see you
The godparents!  also Ben trying to flirt!
Still manages to look like a boy even with a dress on

Proud Grammer and Pops

Thanks, Fr. Brian!
Evie's last day of preschool was on Friday.  We are so so proud of this little girl.  Sending her to preschool five days a week was a lot for this little one (lots of mom guilt), and she made it through really well!  Rocky start to the year, but now she loves school and can't wait to come back in the fall.

Last day of Preschool 3's

First day - what a difference!

Her amazing teacher

Best buds

Singing her heart out at her little performance

Maggie got her full-leg cast off on Monday.  Warning - these pictures are kind of gross.  I think we were expecting her to start walking pretty quickly, but that's definitely not the case.  We got her to move her toes a little bit and straighten out her knee, but she's too worried to do anything further, and definitely won't put any weight on it.

Maggie's fancy art work as a buffer before the foot pics

Creepy button that held her tendon tight in the cast...
the doctor just popped it right off.  Shudder.

A couple of incisions under the steri-strips

So hopefully we'll get her to do a little bit more movement each day.  So far there's no plan to do physical therapy.

Looking back, we celebrated Memorial Day at the Donoghues.  It was too rainy to do the parade, so we took the kids to see Aladdin instead, and then had burgers!

One day we'll get a nice family shot

Ham

Will, Violet and Violet's bow!

Cousins!

Jamie arranged for a little trip to Traverse City for me and Erin last weekend.  We had such a great time!  We spent the day doing a kayak, bike and brew tour of four breweries, and then had a fancy dinner after!

Hanging at the O'Neill's cottage on our way there

mmm pasty legs

Confident in her abilities

Conquered the kayaks!
