Kindergarten

Maggie started kindergarten this week, and absolutely loves it!  I thought she might be nervous on her first day, and I think she might have been for a few minutes at the beginning, but came home gushing about how great it was!  Her teacher is Mrs. Lampman who we’ve heard is very strict but in a really good way.  It was so hot for their first day (no air conditioning) that the principal told the kids they could skip uniforms… so her first uniform picture had to wait a couple days.  I asked her if she was glad the weekend is here… she responded not really because she really wanted to get some homework (which starts next week).  I’m sure the novelty will wear off!

Maggie has her bottom two teeth loose, and was desperate for a visit from the tooth fairy.  With some floss and a little help from Daddy, she popped that first tooth out!  She literally said, “my first day of kindergarten and my first tooth?!?  This is the best day ever!!”  So sweet.  The tooth fairy wrote a tiny note, scrolled up with a dollar and left her a new toothbrush… I think the tooth fairy is setting a high bar… Maggie was beyond thrilled.

A little freaked, but mostly happy!

Evie is getting ready to start at preschool this Tuesday.  Earlier in the week we went to the back-to-school picnic, and then we had a “meet and greet” session with her preschool teacher this week.  Evie has had such a hard time getting through daycare these past couple weeks while Jamie went back to work, and I’m so anxious for this new transition.  While she seems to like her teacher, and even gave her a hug, she asked about 10,000 times if we could leave during our 1-hour visit to the classroom.  Say some prayers for my baby girl!

I took the day off on Wednesday for our visit and then we had a lunch date at Pieology.  On a whim I decided to go to our local art store to do a painting project together.  We worked together to paint a set of ceramic measuring spoons which will get fired and glazed next week – looking forward to our special project!

Out of the blue last week, Evie started going through the night with a dry pull-up!  We tried to do the underwear thing a while back, and it just wasn’t working.  Seems like her body might be ready now, woo hoo!

Pregnant life is sooooo much fun.  Actually I can’t really complain; I’m in the second trimester and have a little more energy and no more nausea!  The girls really like to say hi to their baby brother… Evie still thinks he’s in my chest and often touches me inappropriately in public… still working on that!

Renaissance Festival

We took the girls to the Renaissance Festival this past weekend.  It was a bit too much walking for them (note - bring a wagon next time), but they had a blast!  I thoroughly enjoyed all the people-watching and eating soup in a bread bowl.

The highlights were visiting the mermaids (I found this very odd, but the girls liked it), and of course riding the ponies.

Last Bennyfit

The final Bennyfit was held this weekend in honor of our friend Ben.  Jamie’s band, Karenin’s Smile, was scheduled to play… since they hadn’t played publicly in years, they had a week-long jam session beforehand.  Andy and Will came into town for the week and it was great to see everyone.  We had an impromptu barbecue on Friday when Katie came into town so the guys could play some songs for the kiddos.

The Bennyfit went pretty smooth, and Karenin’s Smile was great!  We got to see so many people that night, it was a really great turn-out!

After the show, no more pressure!

I got talked into attending a golf outing this week for work… I think the last time I swung a club was when I was a kid and my dad was trying to keep us busy while he practiced at the driving range!  Thankfully Adam met up with us to give me a basic lesson.  I had a few embarrassing swings at the outing, but thankfully most people were drunk and super nice about everything – I even had a few really good shots (golf, not alcohol).

This is an example of good form compared to bad form

Andy’s parents stopped by last weekend to do brunch with Andy and Katie, and dropped off a handmade “eye-spy” quilt.  It has 81 different fabric patterns included so the girls can play eye-spy with it – they love it, and Evie yells at me if I step on it because “it is very special to me.”  I swear, she mimics Maggie’s sayings more than ever!  Mrs. Sandoval is one thoughtful lady!

Oh Baby

I’m pretty sure most people already know this, but we’re expecting baby #3 in February!  First trimester is over!  We told the girls a couple weeks ago… Maggie is super excited; it took Evie a little while to comprehend, but she’s excited too!

Baby bean

Here's us trying to clue the girls in... it's a long video, but posting for sentimental value:

Jamie and I found out the sex of the baby last week, and wanted to tell the girls in a fun way.  This weekend we had the girl’s first lemonade stand, I made some cupcakes with colored filling to let the girls (and a few of their friends) know the sex of the baby:

They had some girl friends over to help out with sales, and it was a huge success!  People were really generous, and the girls loved running their business.

Who could resist these cute faces?

I took the girls over to Cuz’s house for a playdate with Brooklyn and Ethan!  They had a really good time, and in true Maggie form, there was an epic meltdown when it was time to leave.  Evie and Brooklyn will be in the same class this year (I think), so it gave them a chance to warm up a bit.
Popsicles in the sand box - it's summertime!

Camp is finally over for the year!  It was a busy one with long days for the kiddos - glad to have a couple weeks together before school starts again.

We celebrated Luke’s birthday a couple weeks ago – he’s a big 7-year old now.  It was a wrestling themed party, so the boys wore their wrestling costumes the whole time…. Which consisted of underwear and nothing else.  Pretty silly stuff!
For he's a jolly good fellooooooooow!

Jamie spent last weekend at the Mo-Pop music festival in Detroit and had a great time with some friends.  This week his buddies are in town to prepare for the final Benny-Fit concert on Saturday!  A fun way for him to end the summer...
